Imagine if there had been no Adam to name things, what it would be like to live in a world without names: bird, fish, dog, man, woman. How confusing the world would be. When God creates, He also creates clarity and definition not only in the world but also in speech. To name things is to think clearly. Light is not dark. This is sea, that is land. He is man, she is woman.
The devil cannot undo what God has created. He cannot undo man and woman. So he attacks our clarity of thought. He attacks the names in an attempt to destroy. To name things accurately is a good work. To muddle things up is devilish. And so when the second Adam comes, He names us with the unasaiable name that is above all names: Christian.
