Augustine (Contra Faust., bk. 20, ch. 21, quoted in Gerhard, On Death, $ 456.10) wisely notes that sometimes you have to put up with things while you teach in a different direction. This is good advice for pastors.
What we teach is one thing; what we endure is another. What we are ordered to command is one thing; what we are commanded to correct is another. Until it is corrected, we are compelled to tolerate it.
